How SHG contributions work

CDAC, MBMF (Mendaki), SINDA and ECF are Self-Help Group funds that support lower-income households in Singapore's Chinese, Muslim, Indian and Eurasian communities respectively. A small amount is deducted monthly from an employee's wages and remitted through the CPF system — the employer facilitates the deduction but does not contribute anything itself.

Contributions are made on an opt-out basis: Singapore Citizens and PRs are enrolled by default, but can stop contributing at any time by submitting an opt-out form directly to the relevant fund.

No. Unlike CPF, these are entirely employee-funded — the employer only deducts and remits, with no employer share.
MBMF applies to all working Muslims regardless of race. For non-Muslims, it's generally based on race: CDAC (Chinese), SINDA (Indian and related communities), or ECF (Eurasian).
